Assam Police Battalion personnels are engaged in the onerous task of helping the district police in maintaining Law and Order, besides guarding the vital installations round the clock. They are also engaged in other static security duties.
They have shown their worth in operations against various insurgent groups and in maintaining the line of communications, giving general security to the people. Most of the Battalions have platoons manning the inter-state Border Out Posts (BOP) at various far flung remote locations in the districts of Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Sibsagar, Karbi-Anglong, Golaghat, Kamrup, Cachar, Hailakandi, Karimgunj, Dhemaji and North Lakhimpur with grit and perseverance.
Most of the Units have Consumer Co-operative societies and family welfare centers from which members of families of Jawans get benefited.
1st APBN is located at Ligripukhuri in Sibsagar district. It was raised vide Govt. Notification No. HPL. 59/46/28 dtd 15-7-1948. The personnel of this Battalion are also engaged in manning 11 BOPs (Border Out Posts).
2nd APBN is located at Makum in Tinsukia district. It was raised vide Govt. Notification No. HPL.348/50/18 dtd 15-7-1952. The personnel of this Battalion are engaged in Law and Order duties besides manning 4 BOPs.
3rd APBN is located at Titabor in Jorhat district. It was raised vide Govt. Notification No. HPL.442/55/21 dtd 25-1-1956 & HPL.272/56/100 dtd 12/12/1957. This Battalion was raised as the 3rd Bn. B.S.F. at Dergaon with the 1st APBN, and subsequently shifted to Salonibari near Tezpur in the year 1959. It was again shifted to Dergaon in the year 1960 and redesignated as 3rd APBN w.e.f. 1-4-1961. It moved out of Dergaon to its present location at Titabor on 14-8-1969. The personnel of this Battalion are engaged in Law and Order duties besides manning 6 BOPs .
4th APBN is located at Kahilipara in Guwahati, district Kamrup. It was raised vide Govt. Notification No. HPL.128/62/22 dtd 16-6-62. The personnel of this Battalion are engaged in Law and Order duties besides manning 4 BOPs.
5th APBN is located at Sontilla in NC Hills district. It was raised vide Govt. Notification No. HPL.18/63/43 dtd 16-3-64. The personnel of this Battalion are mostly engaged in Law and Order duties.
6th APBN is located at Kathal in Cachar district. It was raised vide Govt. Notification No. HPL. 700/64/57, dtd 2-2-65. The personnel of this Battalion are engaged in Law and Order duties besides manning 6 BOPs.
7th APBN is located at Charaikhola in Kokrajhar district. It was raised vide Govt. Notification No. HMA. 115/86/64, DTD 22-8-1986. The personnel of this Battalion are mostly engaged in Law and Order duties.
8th APBN is located at Abhayapuri in Bongaigaon district. It was raised vide Govt. Notification No. HML. 194/70/63, dtd 26-6-1966. Its Personnel are mostly engaged in the guarding of vital installations and maintenance of Law and Order in districts.
9th APBN is located at Barhampur in Nagaon district. It was raised vide Govt. Notification No. HPL. 194/70/63 dtd 14-9-1970. The personnel of this Battalion are engaged in manning 6 BOPs, important railway bridges, other security and Law and Order duties.
10th APBN is located at Kahilipara, Guwahati in Kamrup district. It was raised vide Govt. Notification No. HMA. 194/73/72, dtd 23-10-1973. The personnel of this Battalion are engaged in important security duties.
11th APBN is located at Dergaon in Golaghat district. It was raised vide Govt. Notification No. HMP. 295/78/47, dtd 29-11-1978. The personnel of this Battalion are engaged in important security and L/O duties besides manning 7 Border Out Posts.
12th APBN is located at Jamagurihat in Sonitpur district. It was raised vide Govt. Notification No. HMP. 570/78/55 dtd 14-1-1980. The personnel of this Battalion are engaged in manning 2 BOPs, guarding vital installations and other Law and Order duties.
13th APBN is located at Lilabari in Lakhimpur district. It was raised vide Govt. Notification No. HMA. 128/87/64 dtd 6-6-1987. The personnel of this Battalion are engaged in Law and Order duties besides manning 4 BOPs.
14th APBN is located at Daulasal in Nalbari district. It was raised vide Govt. Notification No. HMA. 125/87/65, dtd 6-6-1987. The personnel of this Battalion are engaged in Law and Order duties besides guarding vital installations.
