Veerangana

Initially a team of 16 women police personnel were trained in Tamil Nadu in the month of April, 2012 on the initiative of the then Director General of Police, Assam Shri Jayanto Narayan Choudhury, IPS. The team was named as Veerangana Unit. The women police constables from various units were trained at BTC, Dergaon under the guidance of Shri B.J. Mahanta, IPS, the then IGP (T&AP), Assam and now ADGP (Railway), Assam. The team display 20 (twenty) events with .303 No. 1 Mark-IV Rifle weighing 4 Kg 127 gms. The Instructors were Ms. Bobby Baishya and Ms. Mandira Chetry. The strength of the Veerangana Unit is 32 (thirty two) women police constables at present. The women police constables have been trained in various aspects like Silent Drill, UAC, Commando Training, Motor Cycle Riding in addition to Law subjects etc. The Veerangana Unit is presently under the command and control of the Commandant, 4th AP Bn, Kahilipara since January, 2015. These women police have been given on the job training and deployed at Police Commisionerate Guwahati to tackle crime against women.
